Lynda Bellingham said: “I’m delighted to be launching the Great British Beef campaign. Being a farmer’s daughter, I have first-hand experience of the great work our farmers do to produce quality food.
“I’ve always been aware of the importance of a nutritious home-cooked meal and love cooking with beef for my family – it’s exceptionally versatile and easy to prepare, providing a wealth of options to shake up the weekly dinner routine.”
NFU livestock board chairman and Cumbrian beef farmer, Alistair Mackintosh, said: “I’m tremendously proud of the beef we produce in this country. We want shoppers to look for the Red Tractor logo to ensure that their beef meets high standards of food safety and hygiene, animal welfare and environmental protection. The Union flag with the logo gives shoppers the assurance about the country of origin.
“By buying British, consumers are helping to support the UK’s rural economy and contributing to a beautiful farmed countryside.”
Leading retailers Morrisons and Asda are backing the campaign and have agreed to throw the power of their social media networks behind the effort to ensure millions of consumers are encouraged to cook with beef and look out for the Red Tractor logo when shopping.
