Why Farming Matters is a long-term campaign that has successfully communicated the importance of a vibrant agricultural sector to thousands of people across the UK.
The campaign explores what farming contributes to the economy, to the quality and security of our food supplies, to the beauty and diversity of our countryside and rural areas and to combating climate change.
Since its launch in December 2006 there have been a series of sub-themes to Why Farming Matters, each focusing on different types of farming:
Why Dairy Farming Matters
This campaign highlights the plight of dairy farmers as they face an ongoing struggle to make a profit from milk in the face of falling prices, rising costs and an unbalanced supply chain.
Young People Matter to Farming
A life on the land in the 21st Century isn't just about wellies and muddy hands - it's about adapting technology, selling to your strengths, listening to the customer and being the best you possibly can. There's a land-based career to suit everyone.
Why Beef and Sheep Farming Matters
Grazing cattle and sheep have been a feature of the British landscape for hundreds of years. This campaign launched in November 2007, raising awareness of the importance of the industry, highlighting the disparity in prices and encouraging people to buy British
Why Horticulture Matters
Leafy salads, crisp apples, wholesome greens - this campaign highlights the quality and supply of British produce and what it contributes to the economy, environment and the health of the nation.
Why Science Matters for Farming
The Why Science Matters for Farming campaign calls on decision-makers to recognise the importance of productive and efficient farming as a goal for scientific R&D. It also aims to inspire the next generation of agricultural scientists.
