"Today's policy debate is all about sustainable farming and food. UK farmers are having to dramatically raise their game to meet higher environmental and welfare standards, as well as respond to changing markets.
"But all too often UK citizens (and their politicians!) show little if any interest in the actual business of food production and land management, let alone in farmers' wellbeing and financial security.
"But one thing is absolutely certain: we will never have genuinely sustainable farming and land use here in the UK unless our farmers are properly rewarded both through the market and through public support for all the different public benefits they deliver on our behalf."
