Jimmy Doherty - Essex Pig Company

"Four years ago I decided to give up city life and move to the country. My main aim was to provide consumers with a specialist and local food variety.
"I battled furiously against red-tape and dwindling profit margins, just some of the issues that threaten our Great British farming industry today.
"A strong determination to re-connect people to the land around them, focusing primarily on the relationship between the field and the fork has been a necessity in running a successful pig farm and farm shop. I now produce quality pork, sausage and bacon from a herd of rare breed British pigs.
"The dream remains but the need to return back to basics and celebrate the diversity and wonder of British farming continues. Farming matters because without it our national heritage and countryside as we know it, will be lost forever."
