"As an MP of a largely rural constituency, I have been given a good understanding of exactly why farming matters. Today's British farmer faces an ever increasing range of issues from the environmental to the economic. The role of a Government that cares about British farming is to raise awareness of these issues and help support farmers in resolving them.
I also appreciate that supporting the farming industry is not just a question of benefiting farming communities. Campaigns such as the NFU's are crucial in ensuring that British farmers are able to maintain the quality and variety of locally sourced produce. The British farming tradition is one we as a nation should be proud of and in which each person wherever they live, should have the opportunity to participate."
