New recipe booklet showcases the best of British
17 September 2009
The NFU has launched a new recipe booklet which aims to ensure families eat healthy, seasonal meals, without breaking the bank.
The 'Good Food, Simple Recipes, Great Taste' booklet features eight mouth watering dishes and a seasonal fruit and vegetable chart helping shoppers to buy fresh British produce when it's in season.
All ingredients can be purchased from the range of Red Tractor assured products found in all major supermarkets and a growing range of independent shops. The Red Tractor logo proves the food you are buying comes from farms and processing companies with high standards of food safety, welfare and environmental protection. The Union flag in the logo guarantees the food is produced, processed and packed in the UK. The NFU is a major supporter of Assured Food Standards, the independent governing body for the Red Tractor logo.
NFU Senior Campaigns Officer Gemma Fitzpatrick says "Each recipe has been priced up at a major supermarket to demonstrate buying seasonal food needn't break the bank. With many families currently watching the pennies, these recipes demonstrate that cooking on a budget doesn't mean you have to compromise on taste.
"Seasonal British food is cheaper as it is more plentiful. It also contains nutrients, minerals and trace elements that you need at particular times of year and shows your support for British farmers."
