"For too long we have under-valued farming and indeed it has been a formal position that it didn't really matter where we grew our food, so long as we could import it or source it at the cheapest possible price. I don't believe that is any longer a sustainable position and there is a general recognition of the importance of increasing our own production of food sustainably.
"I pay tribute to the NFU in promoting the importance of farming to politician's, political parties and the wider public."
