Help us fight misleading food
17 December 2009
Fed up with the confusion over labelling? Want to know exactly where your food comes from?
Confusion over food labelling is a hot topic among consumers and as a consequence labelling rules have come under recent scrutiny. Your actions can help the NFU lobby to tighten up labelling rules so that everyone can be sure exactly where the animals that made their food were farmed.
Your mission - to look at the labels on meat and dairy products including sausages, ham, breaded chicken and cheese etc.
We are as interested in what isn't on the label as what is but may be perceived as misleading.
If there is a country of origin label, does it show where the animal was farmed, or where the food was produced or processed, or both?
Is there anything misleading about the label and how the countries are mentioned?
If so, send the label, ideally as a photocopy, to Helen Ferrier, National Farmers Union, Agriculture House, Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, CV8 2TZ.
